Alcatraz – Copy protection made by kdg

Alcatraz was developed at the Austrian headquarters in Elbigenalp.

Copy protection know-how rests with kdg; in this way, the manufacturer is directly responsible for all related support, implementation and customisation issues.

Since the Alcatraz developers form part of the production team, customer orders can be processed swiftly and with a minimum of fuss. This in-house arrangement is perfect for managing bespoke copy protection solutions .

Software products vary in the kind of protection they require. Copy prevention features will usually suffice for mass products with a short product cycle. But in the case of higher quality products with a longer product cycle, a more sophisticated form of copy protection is definitely required. The best type of protection you can enjoy is protection that is directly incorporated into the software itself.

From a technical point of view, Alcatraz is based on a "watermark" system: i.e. the data structure of the relevant software is modified during the glass mastering process. Consequently, the commercially available CD that has been authorised as a legal replication cannot be copied, or only with great difficulty.

Alcatraz, how does it work?

Alcatraz prevents reading and copying using standard copy programs. There for Alcatraz is recommended for second or further editions of a CD-ROM product (particularly when sought after by enthusiasts).
